The instant tax-credit advance (avance immédiate de crédit d'impôt) is a free service run by URSSAF, France's social-security collection agency, that subtracts the 50% tax credit from an invoice the moment a family pays for home tutoring. On a 200 € lesson bill, the family pays only 100 €, and URSSAF sends you the rest.

For a private tutor, this is a concrete selling point. Your rate stays the same, but the price the family feels is halved from the first payment. Families already expect this from the big tutoring chains, so offering it yourself removes one reason to pick a competitor over you.

What the family sees, with and without it

Without the advance, a family that pays you 1,200 € over a year gets its 600 € tax credit the following year, after filing their income-tax return. They carry the full cost for months.

With the advance, the credit lands right away. The family pays 600 € spread across the year, and you still receive the full 1,200 €. The rate is the same 50%; only the timing changes.

The 50% tax credit applies only to lessons given at the pupil's home. Online lessons, lessons at a center, or lessons at the teacher's place do not qualify.

Check this rule first. If most of your teaching happens over video or in your own living room, the scheme does not apply to you.

The two conditions on your side

  1. Register as a personal-services provider (services à la personne, SAP). This is a free activity declaration you file online. Without it, a family paying you directly gets no tax credit at all.
  2. Teach at the pupil's home. Tutoring and academic support are on the official list of personal-services activities, provided they happen at the client's residence.

Once declared, you request access to URSSAF's API Tiers de prestation, the technical link between your invoicing and the credit payout. The declaration also lets you state on your invoices that the lessons open the right to the tax credit, which reassures a new family.

How to sign up, step by step

The authorization request is fully online and comes in two parts:

  • a form describing your business and how you will use the service;
  • a testing phase before you go live.

Once approved, you register each client family, then create a payment request for each lesson or invoice.

The payment flow, in order

  1. You enter the lesson amount in the Avance immédiate service.
  2. The family gets an email or text and has two business days to approve or dispute it. With no reply, the request is approved automatically.
  3. URSSAF charges the family half the amount.
  4. You receive the full sum, your share plus the tax credit, within four to six business days.

Every payment request rests on an invoice, so keeping your invoicing in one tool prevents gaps between what URSSAF pays and what you billed.

The ceilings worth knowing

The credit is 50% of what the family pays, up to 12,000 € of spending per year per tax household, which works out to 6,000 € of credit. That ceiling rises to 15,000 € with dependents and up to 20,000 € in certain disability cases. Above it, the family pays full price.

A typical tutoring budget rarely reaches these limits. It is still worth flagging to a family that stacks several personal services (cleaning, childcare, gardening) in the same year.

What it does not replace

The advance handles the tax credit, not your bookkeeping. You still need to:

  • issue a clean invoice for every lesson;
  • produce the annual tax-credit attestation the family attaches to its return;
  • track who paid for which lesson.

Offering the instant advance takes some setup. Even so, it is one of the few levers that make your lessons more affordable without touching your hourly rate, and for a business that grows on word of mouth, that is a real reason to be recommended. You can weigh what this tracking would cost you by hand against our pricing.
